Hello Indivisibles,
As we watch the daily power grabs from the felon’s regime, please be sure to send a letter to thank the Texas Democrats for breaking quorum to stop the insane redistricting overreach. Big pushes in the Indivisible world involve stopping ICE in whatever capacity we can, planning for Labor Day action, and jumping into the One Million Rising planning for civil disobedience. Stay tuned for details.
End Geo Concentration Groups: Moshannon
Moshannon Valley Processing Center is the largest ICE detention center in the Northeast United States. ICE sends individuals detained from across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, and is expected to reach its maximum capacity of 1,870 people in a matter of weeks. There have been documented and verified abuses of detained individuals, indicating a profound disregard for the human and civil rights our Constitution guarantees to every person in America.
Moshannon is operated by GEO Group, a private corporation that reportedly earns over $3 million per month to operate the facility. GEO Group operates under contract with both ICE and the Clearfield County Commissioners.
In 2024, the ACLU filed a federal complaint about the abuses reported at the facility, including rampant use of solitary confinement, denial of language and translation services, and lack of appropriate medical care. Individuals recently released from Moshannon say this kind of behavior continues. The majority of people detained at Moshannon - like the majority of individuals arrested by ICE across the country- have no criminal history and are not accused of any crime.
We are partnering with organizations state-wide to mobilize and protest at Moshannon on Sunday, August 24th. Please note: this is a peaceful protest and an exercise of our first amendment rights; we do NOT anticipate civil disobedience or arrest.
